Hello Amazing Nurses of the New England Region WOCN, I have returned from our National WOC meeting in Texas excited and re invigorated to continue to move forward helping to plan and launch our regional conference at Mohegan Sun, October 21-22. Our education committee has been working hard to provide an amazing educational experience for you.
For those of you who attended National Conference and those who zoomed in virtually, you experienced the wonderful educational sessions encompassing our full scope of practice. I learned a lot (our practice continues to evolve with technology and innovative thinkers) and look forward to learning more with the amazing speakers and educational content we are offering in the Fall at Mohegan Sun in CT October 21-22. You can refer to our website under the conference tab at
www.newenglandwocn.org for our educational content and agenda.
Just to give you a little flavoring of what’s to come: Ileoanal pouch…. how many times have you wondered why this is the gold standard today for those patients with UC and FP? There is a presentation on malnutrition in wound healing which as we all know nutrition is one of the principles of wound healing. Skin failure is another topic; one we struggle with trying to decipher is this a pressure injury or
end of life Kennedy Terminal Ulcer or both. Lymphedema, a topic many of our face in our practice and now we can learn more about how we can effectively treat these patients.
I encourage you to consider attending this conference and take advantage of our early bird special. The venue is new for us this year and for those who were unable to attend National, this new venue will give you that high level National feel as we maintain our high standard of a professional, engaged organization as well as an opportunity to network with our colleagues. It will maintain the traditions of
our past with our youth rally, historian booth as well as move into the future with educational opportunities that will help us remain current in our practice.
I would also like to encourage you to consider nominating a nurse for “Nurse of the Year” . Someone who has influenced you in growing as a WOC nurse. I am sure there is someone that has mentored you, encouraged you to be the great WOC that you are or perhaps someone who you would reach out to that has always been there to guide and support you. Please visit our website for the application and more information.
Lastly, the New England Region WOC has scholarships available for those nurses pursuing a career in WOC nursing or those WOC nurses who choose to advance their degree. Visit our website for further information.
Have a healthy and happy summer and hope to see you all in the Fall.
